The La-Di-Da Hare
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (April, 1997)
Authors: J. Patrick Lewis, Diana Cain Bluthenthal, and Diane Blusenthal
Average review score:

Our very favorite kids' book
Sweet without being saccharine, luscious illustration, an incredible book for kids and grown-ups about friendship, adventure, and longing. We've given a dozen of these this year.

Two strangers discover happiness with an irrepressible Hare.
It may be the Year of the Ox, but thanks to J. Patrick Lewis, The La-di-da Hare is the book of the year. A Mouse and a Bear set sail for the Island of Oh where they discover the Zsa-Zsa Gabor of Hares, with a two- carrot ring. She offers her guests Bermuda shorts, designer shades in an irresistible vacation spa. It is here that the Bear and the Mouse decide they will stay until pigs fly. On a more ontological level, it is the story of Eden after Adam. And what child--indeed what adult-- does not want to experience life like that: the abode of the La-di-da Hare, especially when delectable bagels and lox await us. That, and a virtual Zabar's of haute kosher cuisine. Susan G. Marceau

Great Book
IM the type of person that gets turned off with religous talk but The author handles the subject matter uniquely taking a different approach on old debates, i guess just more of a realistic approach in a fiction novel. This gives me a respect for the author and i am now curious about the next book.

best book i've read all year
i really enjoyed this book. once i started reading it i thought it would be boring but once i got to about the tenth page or second chapter i didn't want to put it down. i first gave the book to my father (pastor) to read and he told me that he usually does not read fiction but this book is good and he wants me to buy 6 more books for family and friends as well as one for himself.

my favorite parts are when the angles are takling to each other. i've have heard about guardian angels, demons and spiritual warfare before and have always been intrigued buy them but never knew how to follow up on it

i also like the way the author deals with homosexuality and the healing power of prayer.
all in all this book helped to stregnthen my spiritual walk with Jesus

The Lewis & Clark Cookbook: Historic Recipes from the Corps of Discoveryand Jefferson's America

Lewis and Clark Lovers be aware
This is THE L&C cookbook. Took a course on L&C where at end of term, we had to do a project. One group cooked various foods using this book. HUGE hit with class. Granted some recipes are from Jeffersonian VA to make a book (hey he sponsored it as well as being in the right era) but all are authentic and ones tested so far were quite tasty.

Well worth waiting for!
I also am a big Lewis and Clark buff; in addition, an avid cook, with my own cookbook. This book finally came out several months after it was supposed to, but it was worth the wait!

Most cookbooks, even the ones that sound like they should have exotic recipes, have the same old stuff, based on boring ingredients that produce ho-hum meals. Not this book! The author clearly knows about good food, and the recipes are a breath of fresh air. They're not terribly hard to make, either.

Visiting my folks over Christmas, the whole family decided to have a Lewis+Clark dinner, just for fun. Everyone helped, and we had: Parsnip Fritters, Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage, Shrimp Bisque, and since we couldn't decide between the Rack of Venison with Rosemary-Dijon Crust and Roast Duck with Blackberry Sauce, we had both of them! For dessert, it was Mocha Creme Pie. All were outstanding.

This book is a class act; I just wish there were a hardcover version.

No More Winnie-the-Pooh Coloring Books for My Kids
Little Johnnie and Betsy and Allison will no longer spend mindless hours coloring bunnies and squirrels- now they can learn important American history lessons from the comfort of their own kitchen table. I'll tell ya- these pictures are going up on the frig!

Really good
I can't say enough about this one - this is way beyond your usual coloring book. Are your kids tired of coloring simple bunnies and trees? This is beautifully drawn and has an educational edge as well. A good one!

Lewis and Clark Trail: The Photo Journal
Published in Paperback by Snowy Mountain Publishing (November, 2000)
Authors: George G. Thomas and Gary R. Gregory
Average review score:

Great Pictures!
I was surprised and excited to receive a signed photo journal from George Thomas. I had looked in books that offered good quality, applicable pictures that I could look at while researching and reading other books (i.e. Undaughted Courage- Steven Ambrose, and Out West- Dave Duncan). I was surprised how hard it was to find a book with many pictures of the trail highlights

This book has not only pictures of the many landmarks along the trail but also suggested old camp sites and river forks described in the story books and journals (I believe they were taken around the same time of year the explorers traveled).

I would suggest this book for everyone!

Excellent Photo Book of Lewis and Clark Journey!!
The photography was breathtaking. It is an excellent book for the layman. I would advise any history buff to read this book. It is also an excellent resource for teachers.

A very Good Book
this was a excellent book. I have always thought occasionally about child labor but Brushed it off before long. However when i read this book it made it so real and I realized just how powerful its hold on the world had become. Once you read this book you see these children in your minds eye, mistreated and exploted worked to their death with a life not worth living because of selfish peoples never ending greed. Anyone that could do such things to children makes me wonder how far mankind has truly come.

A stirring book

This book makes history alive and real.
This book is wonderful. You gaze at the pictures and the children seem to stare back at you wanting to tell you their story. I teach social studies and wanted to show my students what child labor in factories and mills was actually like.It is disturbing to witness these barefoot, dirty children working so hard for pennies. Hines photographs allow you, the reader, to view one moment in their lives. We have come so far and thankfully this take of child abuse is no longer allowed in America. This book is a wonderful addition to any classroom or library. We need to know our past before we can shape the future.

Light on C. S. Lewis
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (January, 1976)
Authors: Jocelyn Gibb and Owen Barfield
Average review score:

Contents
Contents of this book include the Preface, written by Jocelyn Gibb, who knew Lewis from his role as editor for several of his books. Long time friend Owen Barfield supplied the Introduction. Theologian Austin Farrer remembers Lewis's work as a Christian apologist. J.A.W. Bennett, a former Lewis pupil and later colleague, referred to Lewis as one of the last representatives of the "Old Western Order". Nevill Coghill was a classmate of Lewis's at Oxford in the early 1920s, and shares his recollections of the man he refers to as "easily the greatest teacher of our time in his chosen fields." John Lawlor, another former Lewis pupil, gives his richly insightful comments about Lewis's tutoring methods and approach to learning. Novelist Stella Gibbons discusses Lewis's science fiction novels. Kathleen Raine remembers her conversations with Lewis about poetry and criticism during his last years at Cambridge; and Chad Walsh describes Lewis's profound impact on American religious thinking. At the end of the book, Walter Hooper provides a bibliography of Lewis writings. This book and others - like C.S. Lewis: Speaker and Teacher, C.S. Lewis at the Breakfast Table, and In Search of C.S. Lewis - is a fine volume of commentary about C.S. Lewis and his work by those who knew him. Fun reading for Lewis fans.

Good reading for Lewis fans
This book is a collection of articles written by several people who knew Lewis and does indeed shed light on the man C.S. Lewis as well as his writings. I thought professor John Lawlor's article particularly fine. Lewis fans will enjoy reading this book.

Little Cliff and the Porch People

Country Livin¿
In this book we meet Little Cliff, a young boy growing up in the Mississippi Delta. He lives with his great-parents, Momma Pearl and Poppa Joe, while his mother teaches school. In this story, he is given a big responsibility, to go through the town and get butter for Momma Pearl to make her candied sweet potatoes in her "magic skillet". Cliff is anxious to get his job done, but along the way several "porch people", friends and neighbors who sit on their front porches and socialize, stop him, giving him their own ingredients for the potatoes. He eventually completes his task and has a huge dinner with his family and all of the "porch people". The illustrations in this book serve as a tribute to country life and the camaraderie amongst neighbors. I highly recommend this novel and it would be a welcome complement to any family library.

Little Cliff and the Porch People
Little Cliff and the Porch People is a lovely book with beautiful watercolor illustrations that capture the Mississippi Delta region. I believe that little people of all races will find this book enjoyable.

Little Cliff is a African-American boy in the south who is sent to run the errand of getting a special ingredient for his great-grandmother's candied sweet potatoes. His journey brings back sweet memories of days gone by. A time when neighbors would go out of their way to help each other and children were taught manners and respect for their elders.
